Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this page. The APA supports the school by organising fun, social events for the children and their families. Our aim is to enrich the children's school experience and to help to build a strong, cohesive school community. Anyone is welcome to join in and help – indeed, being an Alpha parent automatically makes you a member of the APA. Becoming involved, at any level, is a great way for parents and children to socialise beyond the classroom. In addition, through some of the events we hold, the APA manages to raise funds for additional “extras” for our children. For example: · Major contribution towards the purchase of the new school minibus last year · Playground and games equipment · New classroom whiteboards Whilst the APA does not get involved in any part of the running of the school, or try to provide equipment essential for lessons, funds raised are used to enhance both the curricular and extra-curricular experience of every pupil. Some of the events from the recent past have included: · Halloween Movie Night (for the children after school) · Christmas Fair · Mufti Days · Easter competition · Summer Fair · Leavers Party · Parents & Staff Quiz night · Sale of second hand items of school uniform (see Contacts). The APA is run by a committee made up of parent representatives from each class (Year Reps.) and elected officers. The committee is responsible for organising and coordinating the social events. Meetings are held about once a month at the school on a Thursday evening.
A job on the APA Committee is not for life! At the beginning of each school year in September, we hold the AGM, where we review the last year's events and finances and look forward to the future. We also elect a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary and anyone is able to put themselves forward for these posts. Parents can also volunteer to be a Year Rep. This is a great opportunity for all parents, old and new, to get involved in the school community. Being a member of the APA committee is not particularly difficult or onerous, but simply requires the ability to attend most meetings, good organisational skills and enthusiasm to get your fellow parents involved in the events. As well as the practical elements involved in putting on the different events, we have a lot of fun. So, when September comes around, do come along to the AGM and join in. The APA has a post box – situated on the wall between the two playgrounds. Any messages, suggestions or ideas that you have are welcomed and will be raised during APA meetings. You may prefer to make direct contact with one of the committee post holders or your Year Rep. (see Contacts). There is also a Notice Board on the same wall which will display APA information (Contacts and Events etc.). We look forward to meeting you soon.
